Twitter: @Anywhere platform to help integration

Twitter is to introduce a new platform called @anywhere which will help web sites to integrate Twitter features. @Anywhere will take many of the Twitter API functions/services and make them available to web sites by adding a couple of lines of javascript. Some of the mentioned uses of this platform include:

  • being able to sign-in to third party web sites with your Twitter ID
  • a journalist’s byline could show their Twitter profile and let anyone follow them from their news article
  • being able to tweet about a video from its YouTube page
  • finding new Twitter users/accounts from the Yahoo home page

When it launches, several sites have signed up to partner @Anywhere, including Yahoo, Bing and YouTube, however Google has not signed up to be an official partner.

When it comes to following interesting people on Twitter, with the sheer amount of Tweeters out there it is getting increasingly difficult to find good people to follow. Twitter will provide some suggestions but there are a couple of other Twitter resources that can help you find friends, strangers and companies.

  • Twitter lists
Many people you follow will already be on a list, so browsing their lists is a good way to start. There are also search engines for Twitter lists such as Listorious while Twibes lets you build topical lists of Twitter users.
  • Twitter directories
There are several combination directories like Wefollow and Twellow but also more specific ones like business directory ExecTweets or the Twitter Moms Network.
