With Google Buzz coming under attack for privacy and functionality issues shortly after its launch, Google has now added a new set of tweaks and is considering loosening the ties to Gmail in light of the privacy issues many users have expressed.
Currently, Google Buzz is tied to Gmail accounts, which causes problems not only for individuals' privacy concerns but also for companies wishing to use the social Buzz network - the only way they can register a Google Buzz account for their company name is to own a Gmail account in the style of

, which in most cases is likely to already have been registered by another user.
In addition, with Buzz tied to Gmail, users are forced to expose their Gmail address if they would like an individual profile URL rather than the default string of numbers.
Google also have announced three new tweaks to improve Google Buzz:
1. Auto-follow becomes auto-suggest Google will not automatically set the accounts of new Buzz users to follow those contacts they’ve emailed and chatted with in Gmail. Instead, Buzz will suggest people to follow from a pre-selected list.
2. Google Reader and Picasa will not connect to Google Buzz automatically
3. New 'Buzz' tab in Gmail Google added a new tab to Gmail’s settings. People will use this tab to choose to show or hide follower/following lists, to include Buzz in the Gmail interface, or to disable Buzz completely - which will also delete associated Google profiles.

Talend Open Studio, an Open Source data integration solution, has been selected by Sitelynx to help efficiently integrate data from a number of different infrastructures to boost business performance.
Sitelynx Ltd is the original search engine optimisation company in the UK and is leading the way in both natural and paid search, having recently expanded into Social Media and website conversion optimisation.
“Sitelynx collects millions of individual actions, including impressions, clicks and transformations,” said Peter Loleit, Head of SEO and Technology at Sitelynx. "In order to understand which campaigns are the most efficient, we need to consolidate all information in a data warehouse. We can then run regular analysis and data mining."
"Sitelynx receives a huge variety of data formats. For example, we extract data from Pay-Per-Click platforms such as Google and Yahoo, whilst advertising and marketing platforms provide data in XML and CSV files. For this reason we needed an Open Source data integration tool, as proprietary software often does not have the capability to integrate a wide range of formats," added Peter.
Talend Open Studio is a sophisticated and robust tool, transforming the process of ETL (loading a data warehouse) from a complex and time-consuming task to being effortless through the use of automated processes.
Peter said: "Using Talend Open Studio, Sitelynx will be able to accurately map and view a graphical representation of processes and workflow charts for each individual client. Plus, there is a strong community supporting the development of the product, meaning that we can now connect to Google Docs to extract data from spreadsheets if we wish."
Talend Open Studio is enriched with a number of dynamic features that provide Sitelynx with a number of benefits. Most notably is its reporting function, which enables Sitelynx to extract current data from Pay-Per-Click campaigns and send it to the relevant person as a text message alert.
François Méro, General Manager EMEA, commented: "When dealing with such a vast amount of data in a range of formats, Open Source helps to eliminate a great deal of challenges compared to proprietary software, which has its limitations. With Talend Open Studio in place, Sitelynx can now streamline its data by consolidating all types of information effectively and without human error. The fact that Talend’s tool accurately integrates data and provides campaign reports automatically means that the company can now benefit from increased performance and efficiency as well as having sufficient information available to prove compliance."

Microsoft is putting back the full UK launch of Bing, its much-hyped rival to the Google search engine.
Sources close to Microsoft said the UK marketing activity for Bing would also be delayed until at least the first quarter of 2010, and possibly later. The site has been in beta testing since June, with no UK marketing activity since.
VCCP Search managing director Paul Mead said: 'The user experience from the UK perspective is not living up to expectations, so they go back to Google.'
Bing is focusing on negotiating deals with media owners to direct search traffic from third-party sites.
In the US, Microsoft set aside $100m (£60.3m) to advertise the service.
The company had said UK marketing for Bing would start once the site had been made more relevant to British users.
Microsoft has been advertising for staff to join Bing to create UK-specific search categories.
One senior search agency executive commented: 'If the product is not localised enough for the UK, it won't work. It is already losing share each month.'
Mead agreed: 'People will try it once, but they will run out of chances with users.'
Bing's UK marketing appears to have taken a back seat to other products; meanwhile, Microsoft has apparently prioritised the high-profile TV and online campaign for Windows 7, its latest operating system.
Separately, a deal for Bing to power Yahoo! search has also been pushed back to 2010.

In a move said to be "the biggest technical change to the Internet since it was created", Internet regulator ICANN has approved a new Internationalised Domain Name Fast Track Process, allowing the use of non-Latin characters from languages like Arabic, Chinese, Hebrew, Hindi and Korean in internet domain names (IDNs).
The move, which will see around 100,000 new characters available for use in IDNs, spells out an interesting development for Search Engine Marketing. "The more domains are recognised in any language the more navigation search in that language will increase", said Graham Hansell, Founder and Director of Sitelynx. "Opening up of the domain name space to non-Latin based languages will increase searching as up to 30% is navigational, looking for websites people know of."
ICANN's decision means that by mid-2010 web addresses using characters from different languages will be available, including top-level domains such as ".com". ICANN's Fast Track Process launches on 16 November 2009, allowing nations and territories to apply for Internet extensions reflecting their name – and made up of characters from their national language.
More than half of the world's internet users do not have English or another Latin-based language as their first language. According to Internet World Stats, Asian countries already account for the largest share of the world's Internet population (over 700 million users or 42.2% of the total Internet population), more than Europe and the United States combined (Europe: over 400 million users, 24.2%, US: 252 million users, 15.1%).
