PSP - The Browser for a new Generation?
PSP hit the high street at the beginning of September and was met with enthusiasm by gamers all over the UK.  But what will be the long term effects of PSP to the online world?

At the beginning of September this year, the new Sony PSP hit the high street with thousands of keen gamers queuing for hours to get their hands on this latest device to hit the market.  Nintendo are also set to launch their new smaller version of its popular GameBoy device, Micro in November.

The introduction of this new PSP device also offers gamers and those wanting a "personalized and mobile entertainment unit" a WiFi network for browsing.  This specific aspect of the launch may well lead to WiFi becoming the new widely used device to browse the web over.  Could this now compete and succeed where the mobile hasn't been able to date?

It is true that there were certain reports that eager gamers went home to find that there were a cluster of dead pixels on the screen, however, this still has not detracted from the fact that it boasts a wide high resolution screen which offers the best view for webpages of any mobile device, which must already be causing widespread concern amongst the mobile handset market.

The manufacturers of this device have delivered a truly mobile surfing experience as the device allows a third viewing of a 800x600 resolution page.

Reports in 2004 predicted that there will be over 70,000 European hotspots by 2008, even today, it is not uncommon for hotel lobbies, pubs, trains and other public areas to carry free WiFi or even password predicted limited and paid for access.  Sony have already put a lot of hard work in to positioning the PSP as more than a gaming device and by incorporating WiFi they have stolen the march on the majority of other handheld devices.

This reinforces the need to ensure that your site is always found as more and more devices are carrying sophisticated web browser facilities.  Search is rapidly becoming more or a utility than a technical proposition and will soon become invisible whilst being always present.
